The Halton Nature Watch programme officially launched last month with a full-day, hands-on session at Bridgewater Park Primary School, marking an exciting first step in inspiring local children to connect with the natural world.

Throughout the day, pupils from across the school took part in interactive workshops focused on invertebrates, giving them the chance to discover creatures that are often overlooked but play a vital role in our local ecosystems.

Delivered in partnership with Animal Teach, alongside Hazelhurst Studios, and supported by Lauren Quayle, who captured the day through photography, the sessions were lively, educational and full of curiosity-led learning.

Schemes like Halton Nature Watch bring a wide range of benefits to schools and pupils alike. By taking learning beyond the classroom, children gain real-world experiences that deepen their understanding of science, biodiversity and environmental responsibility. Engaging directly with wildlife helps build confidence, encourages questions, and supports key curriculum areas while also fostering respect for nature from a young age.

Bridgewater Park Primary School was delighted to take part in the programme. Staff praised the sessions for their inclusive, hands-on approach and the way they captured pupils’ attention throughout the day. For many children, it was their first opportunity to safely observe and learn about invertebrates up close, sparking enthusiasm and plenty of discussion long after the sessions ended.

The success of this launch event highlights the value of collaborative initiatives like Halton Nature Watch. By working closely with schools and specialist partners, the programme aims to nurture curiosity, support learning, and inspire the next generation to care for their local environment.

With such a positive start, Halton Nature Watch is set to make a lasting impact across the borough, bringing nature to life for young people and helping schools enrich their learning in meaningful, memorable ways.
