Halton Borough Council’s Sure Start To Life celebrated its tenth anniversary with a FREE afternoon tea event, attended by almost 100 local people from the Runcorn and Widnes areas as well as the Mayor and Mayoress.

The Sure Start to Later Life team hosts a monthly get-together at Grangeway Community Centre for older people from all areas of Halton. For August they decided to make the event a free celebratory one to mark their 10 year anniversary.

There were raffles, a dancing competition led by “Elvis”, and a quiz at the event on Monday 14 August, and attendees enjoyed another fabulous afternoon tea.

Some comments from attendees:

“We thoroughly enjoy meeting and making new friends, it’s such a break from our norm”
“Very, very, good. Gets people out talking, dancing, even making new friends”
“I lost my husband in 2015 and it took me a long time to pull myself together thanks to you its helps”
“The get together helps me get my husband away from the TV and gives me a chance to have other people to talk to, would miss it if it had to stop”.

Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for Health and Wellbeing, Cllr Marie Wright, said: “This is a great opportunity for people to get out of the house and socialise. SSTLL does a great job and long may it continue,”

The get-together events are run from February to November, to book a place call: 01928 569498 and speak to a member of the team.
