Halton Borough Council has issued a warning after a resident received a telephone call from a 0300 telephone number about an outstanding tax bill.

The caller did not give a name and the message was pre-recorded.

The message stated that the resident had an outstanding tax bill registered against their address. The message goes on to state that a warrant would go out for the resident’s arrest, unless they press ‘1’ on their telephone key pad.

Trading Standards emphasise that this telephone call is a scam and you should hang up if you receive any such calls.

Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for Trading Standards, Cllr Dave Cargill, said: “If you or somebody you know has been caught out by a scam or fraud please contact one of our specialist scam officers, Linda or Sue on 0151 511 8785 or 0151 511 8775, who are already working with people in Halton who have lost thousands of pounds to scams.”
