Do you love the swans at Victoria Park? Enjoy the cafe at Runcorn Hill? Love walking at Hale Park? Well it’s time to vote to help your favourite Green Flag park win a national contest.

Remember last year our very own Victoria Park in Widnes, run by Halton Borough Council, announced by Green Flag Award as one of the winners of the 2018 People’s Choice vote, beating hundreds of others to be in the top five in the UK?

Runcorn Hill Park also got into the top 25 making it a double win for Halton Borough Council and its residents. With Hale Park also getting a good showing.

Voting started again this week for this year’s contest to find the country’s most loved ‘Green Flag’ parks. And ours need your votes!

Voting in the People’s Choice opened on Sunday 1 September and will close on at 11.59pm on Monday 30 September. And success depends on you.

This year an army of experts awarded a record breaking number of Green Flag Awards to the UK’s very best parks and green spaces. The scheme is now asking the public to vote for their favourites.

Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for the Physical Environment, Cllr Ron Hignett, said: “The publicity created with Victoria Park and Runcorn Hill Park doing so well last year, really put them on the map.

“It encouraged local people to visit them with a fresh set of eyes. Our parks are the jewels in Halton’s crown and we continue to value them.”

Paul Todd, International Green Flag Award Manager said: “The People’s Choice Award is an opportunity to show how much your favourite park means to you. Make your voice heard and vote now.”

Victoria Park was one of a top ten that includes a university campus, a town park, a woodland and a nature reserve. According to TripAdvisor it is the number one attraction in Widnes.
