All the votes have been counted and verified and we can announce that the new name for the upcoming health and education hub in Runcorn town centre is…. WELL Runcorn.
WELL Runcorn stands for Wellbeing, Education, Lifelong-Learning all of which will be on offer and available for Runcorn residents to access once works on site are complete with the project opening in early 2026.
“It was great to see so many people have their say and help us choose a name for this space that will is transform the lives and services available to local residents right here in the centre of Runcorn Town. The name chosen truly embodies what this building represents and how it is going to make a difference to the town.” – Carl Mackie, Halton Health New Town and Strategy Manager, Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
This is an exciting step for the project as the construction work inside the old library building is well underway and the beginnings of the steel structure is coming in for the educational space within the hub has started to take shape.
This structure will support the first-floor mezzanine of the hub where locals will find the education opportunities on offer from the facility including classrooms. The hub is designed to be a welcoming space for the community to access a range of services from health, wellbeing and education. This will provide families, young people and those living with long term conditions in Runcorn and surrounding area a ‘one-stop’ facility.
The new hub is part of the wider Reconnecting Runcorn programme, an ambitious group of projects that will collectively improve the lives and livelihoods of local people. The programme was awarded £23.6m in 2021 from the UK Government’s Towns Fund as part of the Town Deals Programme to deliver the Runcorn Town Investment Plan.
Stay tuned – keep an eye out for the latest updates on the project and hear from the interior designers as to how they have designed the space to make it somewhere you want to go rather than somewhere you have to go.
