More than 1,500 pupils will have enjoyed Halton Borough Council’s annual safety-fest, Crucial Crew, by the end of the week (8 March), with 46 primary schools taking part.
Pupils flocked to the Halton Stadium to take part in scenarios which aimed to present important information in a fun way.
The “hands on” safety scenes teach young people about important issues that are often overlooked by the curriculum, including teaching the recovery position, online safety, arson and stop drop and roll, road safety, hidden sugars in foods and mindfulness
The children were involved in seven scenarios provided by partners from Halton Borough Council’s Road Safety Team, experts in travel / personal safety, Health Improvement Team, Fire Service, Police, School Health Nursing Team and Safeguarding Children’s Board.
The children who have attended so far said they thoroughly enjoyed the day and wanted to stay for longer!
Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for Transportation, Cllr Stan Hill said: “It’s essential that young people learn about safety and by taking part in the scenarios in a fun and interactive environment the messages are remembered more easily.”
Funding came from Halton Safeguarding Board, Safer Halton Partnership, Halton Unison and Crimebeat, which enabled the event to take place and was organised by Halton Borough Council’s Road Safety Team.
