Cold callers currently are operating in Widnes and Runcorn, according to Halton Borough Council Trading Standards, and you are advised to give them the cold shoulder.
They are knocking door to door stating they can get residents better deals for their gas and electric supply.
Given the current situation with the energy price increases and the Governments Energy Price Cap, it sounds too good to be true.
Halton Trading Standards advice to residents is never to deal with cold callers.
If residents are concerned or struggling to pay their energy bills, they should contact their current energy supplier in the first instance.
Avoid being caught out by cold callers
•Keep your front and back doors secure at all times.
•If someone comes to your door, observe this code:
– Stop: Are you expecting anybody? Do they have an appointment?
– Chain: Secure the door bar or chain before opening the door.
– Check: Ask for and double check the caller’s ID.
•If they offer you products, services or to do work on your property say “No, thanks” and shut the door.
•Do not keep large sums of money at home.
