A Halton school, which welcomed all year groups back, has reported an astonishing 93.4 per cent attendance rate on the first day back.

St Chad’s Catholic and Church of England High School Executive Head Heather Aaron said she was proud of her pupils, parents and staff.

She said: “Today we were delighted to welcome ALL staff and students as we returned to St Chads Catholic and Church of England High School.

“Following the long period of home schooling it was important to us to allow every pupil to return to school immediately so that they can restart their lessons with their teachers and peers.

“It was wonderful to see them all and, despite the rain, a great day was had by all!! I would like to thank all our parents for their support.”

Her words were echoed by Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for Children, Young People and Families, Cllr Tom McInerney: He said: “St Chad’s has proved an example to others up and down the country.”

This week many pupils in England and Wales are going back to school – after the long disruption caused by the pandemic outbreak, with almost all schools expected to be ready to teach pupils full time.
