The Mayor of Halton for 2025/2026 is Cllr Martha Lloyd Jones with her husband, Peter, as her Consort.
Cllr Lloyd Jones officially began her year of office on Friday evening at a special inauguration ceremony at Runcorn Town Hall. the new Mayor said she is greatly honoured to represent and promote the borough of Halton at civic functions and at engagements across Halton, Cheshire and the Liverpool City Region.
Martha was born and raised in West Bank, Widnes, with her parents, four brothers, and three sisters. Martha attended West Bank School before moving on to Central Secondary School and later night school.
She began her career at the age of 15, holding various positions such as switchboard operator, typist and, later, Personal Assistant to the Managing Director of a local company. Her strong work ethic has been a constant throughout her career.
In 2005, Martha’s husband Peter was elected Mayor of Halton, and she served as Mayoress. This experience inspired her to pursue local politics, leading to her election to the Council in 2006. Martha represents the Norton South and Preston Brook Ward.
During her tenure as a councillor, Martha has served on several Boards, including Safer Halton and Healthy Halton, she was Chair of the Audit Board and, prior to taking up her role as the Mayor, she was a member of the Executive Board holding the Community Safety portfolio. She has also been a school Governor.
Martha lived in Widnes for many years before moving to her current home in Runcorn. She enjoys spending quality time with her family, which includes two sons, three daughters, and eleven grandchildren. Martha has a passion for reading, particularly crime novels, and enjoys the theatre and travelling.
Cllr Peter Lloyd Jones worked as a solicitor in Widnes for many years and ran his own legal practice for more than 30 years, retiring as a consultant in 2013. Peter has extensive experience in local politics and has held numerous senior positions during his tenure on both Cheshire County Council and Halton Borough Council. He has been a governor for several schools and also serves as a Trustee of Halton Citizens Advice Bureau.
Peter is a former Mayor of Halton and an Honorary Alderman for the County of Cheshire. He has a keen interest in education and health and enjoys spending time in his garden, keeping himself active. Peter is looking forward to supporting Martha during their Mayoral year.
The Mayor has chosen to support two local charities – Nightstop Communities Northwest and Halton Speak Out with Ella Together.
Nightstop is a not-for-profit organisation that offers emergency accommodation and comprehensive mental health support services to the people of Halton, Warrington, the Liverpool City Region and across the Northwest.
Halton Speak Out is a registered charity dedicated to fostering community cohesion and enhancing physical and mental well-being. The organisation promotes social and emotional interaction and inclusiveness through diversity, catering to people of all ages and abilities. Under their umbrella is the Ella Performance Group, an inclusive performing arts group that has been delighting audiences for almost 10 years and excels in building the confidence of all their students.
