Halton Trading Standards has seen a rise in the number of consumers who have been receiving email conformations for products they have not ordered.

Everyone likes something free (especially in this case of a mobile phone that retails at +£700).

The scammers realise this too, hence why the product confirmation email is for an expensive mobile phone and not toilet rolls etc.

Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for Trading Standards, Cllr Dave Cargill, said: “These emails are just another attempt by scammers to steal your personal and banking details.

“This scenario very much falls into the ‘if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is’ category.Top tip: Think, if I have not ordered it, should I really be receiving it?”
